Small Lidded Box - made from 200 year old sycamore

100,00

Turned from a huge sycamore tree on my neighbours farm that fell in Storm Eowyn. The beautiful 200 year old tree fell into the farm yeard, amazingly missing everything on its way to the ground. My neighbour knew I am a turner and asked if I could make anything from it.

Locking lid boxes are complex to make requiring some specialist tools and plenty of experience and fine control to get things right. To open the lid simply turn the lid until the two dots line up then lift the lid. To lock it tuck the tab at the opposite end to the dot under the rim, drop the lid into place and turn gently clockwise until it stops turning.

It was turned on my Bowl Lathe, the traditional way of making cups, bowls and boxes for thousands of years. This wonderful lathe is powered by nothing more than my legs.

These lovely boxes can be used for anything around the home - tea and coffee, jewelry or any precious things.

This box is 4.75"/12cm in diameter 3"/8cm high.

finished with walnut oil, beeswax and milk paint.

IMPORTANT FOR UK CUSTOMERS:

Northern Wood Monkey is now resident in the Republic of Ireland.

Since Brexit is has become difficult and expensive to send any items to the UK from Ireland as I am just a small business and the admin and costs are prohibitive. I am occasionally in the UK and it may be possible to send from the UK when I am there, please contact me to discuss.

I can post to the UK from here but the postage costs seem to be around €30 and there may be additional costs from UK customs upon arrival there.

If you are in the UK please contact me first through this website before placing any order.
