Handmade Spalted Beech Quaich #1
The Quaich originates in Scotland as a wooden drinking bowl, turned from a single piece of wood with two handles opposite each other.
This was made from a fallen Beech tree in Northumberland. It was quite a task to get the sections of tree from a deep ditch where it fell to the road and back to the workshop, though now I see the finished work it seems worth that frozen day in January.
This was turned on my pole lathe, and as layers are removed the beautiful patterns emerge.
The bowl is 3.5" (9cm) wide and 2" (5cm) deep, and holds about 200cl of liquid
It is finished with Walnut oil and beeswax and will develop its own patina over the years
Wash in warm water and dry, not dishwasher safe
