April brought the first Northern Bowl Gathering in County Durham.
The aim was to galvanize the bowl turning scene in the North of England and Scotland. We anted to create a space where people would come to share their skills and get to know each other, offering support and their experience to one another.
The most important aspect was to keep the generous spirit of knowledge sharing as a key theme, and during the event people turned their first lidded boxes and nested bowls.
Evening meals were a communal affair around the fire, though it took some effort to drag people away from their lathes. The spirit of fun and friendship continued into the evening with a beer brewed specially for the event and music and songs around the fire.
Next year we will expand the gathering slowly, with some tutored sessions from well known bowl turners and carvers and more people attending. More fun days to come.
